Stupid Train Set

My child had taken a liking to a Thomas The Tank Engine train set at the Chapters in the mall, every time my husband and I visited Chapters and went into the Indigo Kids section he ran straight to the train table and started playing with it happily until the point where we would have to drag him away from it kicking and screaming once it was past time to go. Well for our son’s birthday he ended up with money from his great-grandparents which we figured could go into a train table and set, there was one on sale at Toys R Us which was the perfect size and right in our price range since we didn’t exactly want to pay $200 for the larger version, nor $500 for the Thomas one.

We go to Toys R Us and pick up this new amazing toy which we swear our child is going to love. We get it home, assemble it right there and then and then gaze on with the looks of disappointment that the train track itself is pathetic, it was a bridge, a loop, and a figure eight. We go back to Toys R Us and drop another $40 on more track to improve the existing track… so for those parents out there that haven’t done this before $40 = 20 pieces of crappy wooden train track.

After an hour of fighting to put together this jigsaw puzzle of track my husband and I realize that we need certain pieces, we needed 4 three way connectors (2 A connectors and 2 B connectors) as well as 2 extender pieces. We look everywhere and find that you have to buy them in packs and that no pack out there has 4 three ways AND 2 extenders and along with these packs you’re spending another $40. So we start searching on Ebay and find the pieces, dole out $14 and pout that we have to wait.

Fast forward to the next day strolling the mall in annoyance that we can’t finish the train set (as we want to glue it down because our son continuously destroyed it.) By fluke chance we walk into a toy store that sells what we need BY THE PIECE! Hallelujah! So we spend another $20 on getting the pieces we need NOW and go home and start the process of gluing. In the end we still have pieces coming from Ebay as they were sent THAT morning… in total we have 11 extra pieces…. Maybe I can sell them for $22? In the end we could have saved our sanity and just bought the really cool and big train set for $200.

Seriously… the money and crap we go through for our kids.

About vanitymom

I'm here to talk about not only the joys of motherhood but also the (not so much joys) of living in a high society world that you're judged upon your looks... where I live you need to be a 7 to gain beach access, an 8 to walk around half naked in the summertime and atleast a 9 to hold your head up high. I'm Vanity Mom. I will be talking about things such as parenting (of course) beauty tips for moms, exercise, and eating healthy... all while doing this with a kid biting the hell out of your leg because he's teething.

we didn’t end up with instructions for this one, we were sitting and looking at it like it was a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. It wasn’t easy syncing up the sides/space to make everything fit.
