Yesterday was like looking into the near future as terrible two syndrome reared its ugly head, not only in my child but in my best friends little girl as well (or maybe there’s a full moon on the way?) Either way after an hour of being out of the house making a simple stop to a dollar store for some birthday supplies (her little one turns two in the following week) and having my child have an all out fit while her’s was also deciding to give out guff we packed the kids into the car and looked at one another. What on earth do you do with your young children when its cold, slushy, and wet outside? What is there left when you’ve walked the mall for endless hours, when parks are soaking wet, and there’s no where to go? It was decided as the kids let us know how unhappy they were sitting in their car seats… swimming? We’ll go swimming… right after we grab breakfast/lunch through the drive thru.
You know you’re a parent when you’re parked in front of your house and eating in the car instead of wrestling a kid out of the car to run inside and grab something, eat and come back to the car minutes later. So my friend and I ate our breakfast sandwiches and then took turns running into our homes (how cool is it to live beside your best friend?) grabbing out bathing suits, towels, and coming back out.
It really makes me wonder some days, where are all the kids my child’s age? What are their parents doing with them? I simply can’t keep him inside all winter. There’s only one play gym here and its about $14 for the both of us (which I simply can’t take him to every weekend.) So parents, mom’s… I ask you, what do you do with your little ones in the winter?
