Welcome to this new-age shallow society of which we live in. Think of the picture perfect mom, she’s thin, trim, athletic, healthy looking, she’s well dressed, has nice hair and a smile and is 100% devoted to her child which means diaper changes, feeding, playing, brushing teeth, and bedtime are all done with incredible poise (not to mention undying maternal love).
Did anyone out there think of a woman with a ponytail dressed in a vomit covered sweat suit with bags under her eyes?
Wanting to look good has become a worldwide epidemic, and I don’t think it all falls under vanity, I think a lot of it also falls under health. What’s the ideal picture of health? Beautiful shiney hair, a trim body, nice nails, a good complexion… how far off is that from the picture perfect mother? What mother can honestly say that she doesn’t want to make healthy choices in life because she doesn’t want to see grandchildren? People whom are healthy are usually considered more content and even happier in life.
I was talking about this to my co-worker today who’s 30 years older than me, she told “I don’t understand why women are so uptight about how they look! Like they have nothing better to do with their time! Look at me, I don’t dye my hair, I don’t wear make-up” with this she spread her arms and I took it in. Indeed she’s as grey as a squirrel, she’s never done up her face, and she’s a good 2olbs overweight… she’s a man-eater divorcee who is making $11 an hour and has gotten nowhere in life, she has incredibly low self-esteem and doesn’t have a positive thing to say about anything.
Sad fact but those whom are perceived as beautiful get further in life, they get promotions more often, they’re usually paid a higher wage and usually have a larger social circle of friends. They’re perceived as people whom are pleasers, whom are smart and have everything going for them… why? Because as much as its preached against society is judging books by their covers and grading them before they’re even opened.
I am determined to be a book that many people glance at, pick up and read.
